Somewhere in the Fall of 2006 an unlikely couple sat at a happy hour comparing dreams. It came to light that Rebecca always wanted to own a boutique and James really wanted to start an online business venture. But instead they were both working in advertising. James had been working as a web developer for the previous 6 years and Rebecca was a recent college grad with an eclectic resume. The talking continued for several weeks and soon the beginnings of Fan Clothing took shape.
The two co-conspirators hammered out details throughout the rest of the winter and by January 2007 FanClothing.com was launched and open for business. The new online boutique had one mission: To provide young professional women with unique and interesting pieces to jazz up their 9-5 lifestyle without breaking the bank or dress-codes. The style was decidedly vintage-inspired modern, and the focus was the hip entry level working girl who had no time to shop and no budget to splurge.
Over the years Fan Clothing saw many changes including the marriage of the two owners and relocation from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Growing steadily since its debut, Fan Clothing now has a great location on the famous Haight street at Ashbury, and a burgeoning collection of retro, indie designs and funky pieces. Expanding on the original mission statement, today Fan Clothing is the go to shop for interesting and unique pieces, from one of a kind hand-made to socially conscious fairtrade, that is must-have, adorable, and priced within reach.
