Spring Stylings

15 Apr

Spring is here and it’s time to weigh in on what has really stuck since the Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Week predictions. For this season designers really pushed the 70s from funky prints to wide leg denim.  It’s only April but it looks like the 70s look is rockin’ forward full steam. Must have accessories for the coming sunshine are aviator sunglasses and big hats.

Not only are these hats practical but these wide rims make any spring or summer outfit look snazzy. Pair with cropped top, wide leg jeans and espadrilles/wedges or a sexy maxi dress and sandals. Add in some Mary Tyler Moore sunglasses and look like a movie star on vacation.

Prints are always big in the spring/summer months because they’re bright and say “sunny happiness time!” This year all the loud trippy psychedelic prints you can think of are back in force. Popular color match ups include turquoise on orange and olive on pink. Sound familiar? Now go dig in your mom’s attic for some of her college digs.

Back to the Future II!

27 Apr

It’s official we have time traveled. Leaving the 80s behind we are now re-living the early 90s because we’ve either built a time machine or everybody just really really missed the 90s. Not only are all the attire of 90s grunge through 90s pop glamor once again available in fashionable stores but so are all the essential accessories. From the geeky round sunglasses,  to those clunky shoes! WOW even 90210 is back on TV and Kelly is still an annoying blonde. Well in case you’ve tossed your teenage wardrobe as I have, you can buy it all back this season and take a walk down memory lane while being hip and trendy. Let’s show the young newcomers how this stuff should really be worn!

NEON – need I say more?

3 Apr

Neon TankFirst I thought there was no way that 80s fashion could ever be embraced as trendy ever again. Oh but it did and I admit that I happily part took feeling trendy and beautiful the whole way through. They lured us in with the simplicity of leggings thinking oh it’s just leggings we all loved the comfort of leggings paired with a loose tunic right? Then unknowingly somehow we woke up to big plastic jewelry, the shine of sequins, the lure of lace and yes our mom’s extreme shoulder pads. That had to be the end of it right? Nope that was only the begining. We are continuing onward into the bright 90s of our childhood. In Fresh Prince, 90210 and Saved By the Bell style we brought back the unthinkable – NEON.

When I first saw it, I was flabbergasted. I remember being so proud of my neon yellow leggings that matched perfectly (in my 9 year old mind) with my bright purple Beauty and the Beast oversize t-shirt, which I wore with a big neon yellow scrunchie. Oh those were the days. The days I thought we would bury and forget. But no NEON, especially pink and yellow are back in a big mainstream way this season and contrary to my original reaction I really like it. I may regret this in year’s to come but I support the slew of neon dresses, summer shoes, accessories etc… that are hitting stores. We’ve even taken on a few in our store and they’re doing really well with the fashionistas of LA! Come embrace the Neons here!
