Season Must Haves

11 Dec

With the days getting a bit colder and a lot shorter some get stuck in the same outfit routine. Unflattering shoes, oversized sweaters (not the stylish kind) and hats that should have been burned back in 1986. Just because you can’t show as much skin and have to wear a couple more layers does not mean you have to sacrifice style! Winter showcases some of the most chic and gorgeous pieces of the year. Get a few practical pieces you can wear often that go with everything like this adorable black brocade coat or these charcoal buckled pumps, both of which can easily be worn with jeans, tights, leggings, skirts, shorts, dresses…you get the point. Embrace the cold while looking your best!

Fashion at Any Age

14 Nov

Women at every age struggle with clothing and whether or not certain trends or styles suit their age or personality.  We say all women need to embrace fashion at every stage in life and here are a couple ways to do so.

Rachel Bilson obviously got the memo that a fitted black blazer is a must for any closet. It is a piece you can wear day or night, rain or shine, casual or fancy and at any age.

Joy Bryant knows that you don’t have to be a teeny bopper to rock a cute colorful print, it just needs to be accessorized correctly. Try Joy’s look by adding a great pair of boots and a bright colored cardigan to a loose patterned frock.

In her 40′s, Naomi Watts knows how to pick a dress that fits to her form and shows some skin while still keeping it a bit conservative with a silvery neutral fabric. The key to this look is confidence and poise. Strapless Dot Print Dress.

The Cut Changes the Game

16 Jul

I have been increasingly frustrated with my closet the past few years and it finally dawned on me why nothing is fitting like it used to. I’m closer to 30 now than 20 and that is actually a big difference. Not a difference many people in Los Angeles would admit to but it’s true.

At this age my butt is just bigger thanks to days of sitting in an office rather than running around campus. My tummy sticks out more – probably due to all those drinks and late night food binges catching up to a slowing metabolism… oh yes and totally skipping my pilates classes because I’m getting busier and lazier in equal parts as time passes does not help.

Bottom line is I don’t have the time or energy for clothes that make me feel sad or self conscious.

Luckily I’m not the only one that feels this way. I met a great designer who told me her entire line was inspired to make women like myself and herself stay fun, sexy and trendy without the skin tight show every bump and panty line stuff. I said great sign me up!! Finally fashion that allows me to be a real human being.

The new line is called Many Belles Down and all her silouettes are carefully crafted to be form fitting without being form fitting. With some clever tailoring all the dresses from this designer will hide the tummy-butt situation while making you feel fun, sexy and most importantly comfortable. Finally a designer who remembers to pay attention to the cut!

NEON – need I say more?

3 Apr

Neon TankFirst I thought there was no way that 80s fashion could ever be embraced as trendy ever again. Oh but it did and I admit that I happily part took feeling trendy and beautiful the whole way through. They lured us in with the simplicity of leggings thinking oh it’s just leggings we all loved the comfort of leggings paired with a loose tunic right? Then unknowingly somehow we woke up to big plastic jewelry, the shine of sequins, the lure of lace and yes our mom’s extreme shoulder pads. That had to be the end of it right? Nope that was only the begining. We are continuing onward into the bright 90s of our childhood. In Fresh Prince, 90210 and Saved By the Bell style we brought back the unthinkable – NEON.

When I first saw it, I was flabbergasted. I remember being so proud of my neon yellow leggings that matched perfectly (in my 9 year old mind) with my bright purple Beauty and the Beast oversize t-shirt, which I wore with a big neon yellow scrunchie. Oh those were the days. The days I thought we would bury and forget. But no NEON, especially pink and yellow are back in a big mainstream way this season and contrary to my original reaction I really like it. I may regret this in year’s to come but I support the slew of neon dresses, summer shoes, accessories etc… that are hitting stores. We’ve even taken on a few in our store and they’re doing really well with the fashionistas of LA! Come embrace the Neons here!
