Col. Mustard with the Candlestick

8 Sep

It’s back to school season and I lament how long it has been since that was for me. But for the sake of nostalgia this week’s fall fashion reporting will be brought to you in that ol’ SAT style – analogies.

Unnecessary analogy #1: Mustard is to Fall 2011 as Purple was to Fall 2009.

A perfect color for summer to fall transition because mustard can say yellow sunny happy, or turning golden leaves chill. No wonder everyone has gone mustard.

If you are like me, gaga for mustard, then the best way to wear it is as your center piece. As a dress, pair with woolly cream or toffee tights.

If you only want a little bit of mustard to show you’re in the know but not fully committed, work it into your layers. Start with one mustard item and add layers like this outfit above from Costa Blanca. Or see below for more mustard pieces.

And if you are really shy about mustard and just want a little dab, it’s a great accent color for many outfits. It’s also very easy to add with just a bag, brooch, scarf etc…

In case you wanted more accent ideas, here’s a lovely collage of more mustard things pulled from Google shopping. My favorite is the flower brooch with the sky blue base for only $10.00 on Etsy.

Spring Stylings

15 Apr

Spring is here and it’s time to weigh in on what has really stuck since the Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Week predictions. For this season designers really pushed the 70s from funky prints to wide leg denim.  It’s only April but it looks like the 70s look is rockin’ forward full steam. Must have accessories for the coming sunshine are aviator sunglasses and big hats.

Not only are these hats practical but these wide rims make any spring or summer outfit look snazzy. Pair with cropped top, wide leg jeans and espadrilles/wedges or a sexy maxi dress and sandals. Add in some Mary Tyler Moore sunglasses and look like a movie star on vacation.

Prints are always big in the spring/summer months because they’re bright and say “sunny happiness time!” This year all the loud trippy psychedelic prints you can think of are back in force. Popular color match ups include turquoise on orange and olive on pink. Sound familiar? Now go dig in your mom’s attic for some of her college digs.

Carey Mulligan: Queen of Classy

8 Mar

Something about Carey Mulligan just makes you fall in love. We don’t know if it’s her impeccable acting and sense of style or the fact she snagged Shia Labeouf. Either way she  keeps it classy basically all the time and we like that. We really were digging the metallic baby doll dress she strutted at the 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala Presented by Cartier so we thought we would give you guys a fun alternative. Try this Many Belles Down Beatrice dress which comes in black and gold to get the classy Carey look.

Oscar’s Best Dressed

1 Mar

Regardless of who was actually winning the awards on Sunday night, we thought Florence Welch and Mila Kunis definitely won in the wardrobe department. Lace was definitely IN this year at the Academy Awards and Florence and Mila (and Scarlett Johansson) wore it well.

Florence Welch (from Florence and the Machine) wore a Valentino lacey vintage-esque dress for the red carpet and later rocked a copper colored Roksanda Ilincic gown while she performed a piece with AR Rahman. There isn’t much this lady does that we don’t love but she managed to swoon us once again both onstage and on the red carpet.

Get the copper look here or maybe you are in the mood for something lace.

Mila Kunis looked gorgeous (per usual) in a lilac Elie Saab dress with sheer panels, contrasting fabrics, and lace detail. Obviously no one expected much less from her but she surprised us anyways with her unique choice that managed to stand out among a lot of the others.

Try a similar look here.

Who do you guys think was the best dressed?

Dressing for Valentine’s Day

10 Feb

Whether you are spending the 14th with your hunny or a group of gal pals, you must dress the part! Don’t have an outfit picked out yet? Don’t panic, that’s why we’re here.

You can never wear enough bold feminine colors and that’s why we stuck to the traditional shades of reds, creams, corals and pinks. We know it sounds a bit girly, but if done right, wearing these colors don’t have to make you look like a piece of candy…unless you’re going for that look.

Try…

The V-neck Tulle dress for a little class.

The Coco Delux Hat to add a little flair.

The Embroidered Tunic for a little sass.

The Military Tulle dress for a little pep.

The Dot Print Lace Collar Dress for a little love.

The Seychelles Gypsy Heels for a little passion.

The Seychelles Come Dancing shoes for a little rhythm.

xo.

Prima Ballerina

8 Jan

It’s not hard to see how much of an influence Darren Aronofsky’s new edgy film Black Swan has had on fashion recently. All of the sudden sheer see-through tops and ballet flats are all the rage. Even Chloé’s Spring 2011 line looks as though each item was individually made for a ballerina with the neutral tones, minimal lines, sheer fabrics and ballet flats. We don’t blame the fashion world,  it’s easy to fall in love with Rodarte’s tutus and intricate  head dresses Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis got to sport through out Black Swan.

Considering all of us can’t pull off the black and white feather, jeweled, extravagant ballerina outfits on a daily basis try something a bit more casual while still accomplishing that chic ballerina look.  Pair this navy bow back leotard with the equally adorable shimmery gold Many Belles Down Skirt and finish off with some feminine and flirty  ballet flats.

Check out a couple items from Chloe’s 2011 Spring line as well!

The Little Metalic Dress

24 Dec

Most ladies are accustomed to falling back on the little black dress, an item which rarely fails, but why not try something new? This metallic mini tube dress is the perfect alternative to the usual little black dress that you can keep for a rainy day. You’ll shine, you’ll sparkle and best of all, you will stand apart from the crowd. Pair this with some black knee high boots for the winter weather or some fun colored pumps for a holiday party with friends. Either way people probably won’t be looking at your feet.
