Before we talk about anything else I just have to share my second favorite dress of the evening. Marion Cotillard’s sheer Dior gown was magnificent. Also very on trend with the sheer long skirts we love this year! She is absolutely the goddess of natural grace and beauty.

On other red carpet observations, Dick Tracy Yellow seems to be the it color. Bold and perfect for Spring. Here’s a few ladies in full glorious yellow.

Another big trend for the evening were shimmering metallic scales. Our favorite was Carey Mulligan’s playful gold to silver metallic frock by Prada.

Every spring floral prints are essential. What else says bloom more than blossoms? This year we are continuing on the vintage floral binge that started on dresses last spring. Leaping off dresses these prints are finding their way onto shorts, bags and shoes!

Please do not wear all in one outfit. However with the right prints you can really make the outfit pop by not sticking to solids.

Floral shorts go very well with the sheer button up shirts that are in season or your basics like t’s and tanks and camis.

The light crop tops that are very on trend now are also a great combo.

Throw a blazer or denim jacket over everything and finish the look with some clogs, wedges or high tops.

From pumps to wedges to clogs everything is 4″ and up, colorful, playful and beautiful.

Above are some of this season’s popular shapes for pumps. As you can see it runs the gamut from armadillo curves to 90s chunk heels to Jessica Rabbit pumps.  The creativity and choices don’t stop at just the shape. Some of the big trends are floral, neon colors, skins and embellishments.

Don’t let pumps get all the fun, wedges are huge right now too. And yes there is a dizzying array of choices there as well. There’s wood wedge, cork wedge or foam wedge – straps, wraps and oxfords -skins, neons, suede or patent.

How do you choose from all these exciting shoes? First it takes a lot of will power not to run out and splurge on shoes. After a few deep breathes lets think basics. For basics every girl should have a reliable pair of black sexy pumps you can match with all your work outfits and most of your evening wear. Then tan or brown wedges for your jeans and casual dresses. Spend on your basics because these have to be comfortable and well made to be your go to everyday shoes.

From there it’s important to evaluate what occasions you dress most for and what color schemes are predominant in your wardrobe so you can choose a few key on trend shoes to make your outfits pop. For example a pair of snake skin pumps can jazz up work outfits and cocktail hour; and funky retro wedges are great for dressing up your jeans and basics. I would not spend too much on this category of shoes because the trends move fast and you may not be able to wear them again next year. Since these styles aren’t for daily wear their comfort level can always be solved with shoe pads from the drugstore.

Sexy doesn’t even begin to describe this girl. Lana Del Rey’s unique cool femininity has just that touch of old Hollywood glam that makes us gush and melt simultaneously. So today as I was putting my baby oil on I looked at the ingredients and it said mineral oil. My brain goes… hmmm…. that’s like rocks, how could that be nutritious for my skin? If argan oil is great because of the fatty acids then what fats can rocks have? So I googled.

Turns out many people say  mineral oil is horrible for you. Although many of the awful effects claimed by nay-sayers are not scientifically proven, I can’t imagine it being the most beneficial oil for your skin either. Of course if you are just looking to lock in moisture it will do that basic job. However it is a left over liquid from gasoline production so it’s not going to have all the great natural nutrients found in argan oil, safflower oil, and grapeseed oil.

If you are looking for a low cost way of oiling your body without paying the high cost of Argan oils try something like grapeseed oil. Literally go to the cooking oil section of your grocery store and just grab a bottle of pure grapeseed oil. I learned this recently from my sister in law.  Grapeseed oil is so good for your skin.

Grape seed oil contains polyphenols, which are antioxidants.  Polyphenols can help slow the process of aging, as well as having anti inflammatory and anti oxidant properties, which also makes it great for helping clear up acne.

Using this oil will help prevent pores clogging and breakouts, it is very good for oily skin as well.

Grape seed oil contains a high amount of linoleic acid, which is a fatty acid essential for the health of the skin and cell membranes.

This is the reason why it makes such a wonderful moisturizer, as it really nourishes your skin, helping keep it smooth and subtle.
