Remember the 90s when everyone ( I mean everyone) ran around in those little tummy baring cropped tops? Oh yes even the boys wore them. So yes, that is back in style. Of course now I’m too old to wear the trend again. Ok not too old… just too un-maintained. But love it or hate it, the trend is back. So here’s a rundown of what’s trending and how to wear it.

Mid-Drift Cutouts

These are a little less revealing than the following categories. The trend is to cut out around the waist to show some skin. Back cutouts are still trending for those who prefer but the mid-drift and side cutouts are definitely much hotter. We are seeing this trend in both maxi dresses, short dresses and rompers! I think the way to wear this trend is for a club or a night out. It is too trendy and funky for just a garden party. However if you live in a very trendy part of town with hipsters having coffee in bowler hats and red lipstick at 2pm then yes you can wear this style whenever you want.

Cropped Mid-Drift Bearing Tops

This trend has been creeping up (pun intended) for a few years now. It started three years ago with crop tops that were belly button length and now we’ve made it up to a six-pack baring length. I love this trend with high waist-ed Arabian pants or wide leg pants. Because the contrast between tight and baggy is super 90s cute. I also love it paired with a sheer flowy chiffon maxi skirt. It’s like I Dream of Genie meets Aphrodite.

Bralet Tops

Maybe lots of designers went to that Paul Gautier exhibit last year and got inspired. This trend is total old-school Madonna. We are seeing it in denim, with studs, in skins and leathers and fun prints. There is no other way to wear this look but with attitude, confidence and a whole lot of funky biker punk pizzazz. That being said here’s a lot of examples of great ways to wear this top.
